Yan Chang

Tech Lead | Senior Software Engineer, Lyft

Yan Chang is a tech lead and senior software engineer at Level 5, Lyft's self-driving division (Level 5 is being acquired by Woven Planet, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation). She is working on the path planning and decision making for autonomous vehicles. Before joining Lyft, she was a research fellow at University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute. She also worked as a visiting scientist at National Transportation Research Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and an intern at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America. She received a B.S. degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her research is mainly focused in the development and optimization of automotive systems, the application of imitation learning and machine learning, and the decision making and motion planning of autonomous vehicles. Dr. Chang is the recipient of the Lyft Autonomous Science Fair Most Innovative Award. She also holds multiple patents. She is currently serving as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification.
